　Plain White T's 合唱團 1997 年組成於芝加哥，走的是流行龐克搖滾，讓他們揚名立萬的卻是一首清新抒情的情歌" Hey there Delilah "。
　
　歌曲中的女主角 Delilah 狄萊拉確有其人，全名 Delilah DiCrescenzo 的她是個障礙賽跑選手。主唱 Tom Higgenson 湯姆希根森透過朋友介紹認識了這位女孩，對她頗有好感，兩人見過幾次面，但並未擦出火花。

　為了在心儀的女孩面前耍酷，湯姆希根森回憶道：「當時我告訴她，妳是我見過最美麗的女孩子，我已為你寫了一首歌。」

　其實根本沒有這首歌的存在。孰料，狄萊拉竟然問：「那首歌呢？我很想聽聽看。」
　
　兩人前後只見過五次面，任誰都知道那是把妹伎倆，但鴨子沒人趕卻自動上了架，縱使前有油鍋也只能硬著頭皮向前衝了。

　湯姆希根森設定好歌曲的情境後開始寫歌：「這應該是專輯中最用心的一首作品，我花了絕大部分的時間在歌詞的撰寫，它是一首歌詞導向的歌，字字句句都很重要，聽起來簡單，卻暴露了我脆弱的內心。」
　
　這首只有空心吉他伴奏的情歌收錄在該團 2005 年的專輯《 All That We Needed 》，發行後受到極大迴響，在排行榜上節節高升，最終坐上全美 百大單曲榜的冠軍寶座，在英國也有亞軍的佳績，並在葛萊美獎上獲得年度最佳歌曲、最佳流行演唱團體二項大獎的提名。
　
　身為歌曲中的女主角，狄萊拉自己也非常喜愛這首歌，但她卻沒有給寫歌的男孩任何機會，只答應和他一同出席葛萊美獎頒獎典禮當作謝禮，定位這是一次柏拉圖式的約會，因為自己早已名花有主。儘管在葛萊美獎和情感兩方面，湯姆希根森最後都未能修成正果，這首歌已帶給了那位女孩和全球歌迷一段美麗的回憶。

　由於這首歌太受歡迎，Plain White T's 在 2007 年的專輯《 Every Second Counts 》中重錄了這首歌，新版中主奏的空心吉他並未更動，但加入了弦樂襯底，使全曲更顯柔美詩意。　( 左上為單曲唱片封面 )
