 Taco 的原版 MV，1983 年

　

　這是一首年代久遠的歌，作者是著名的詞曲作家 Irving Berlin 艾文柏林 ，他最著名的作品為" White Christmas 白色聖誕 "，" Puttin' On The Ritz "是他 1927 年完成的歌曲，首度公開發表是在 1930 年的同名歌舞電影《 Puttin' On The Ritz 》。根據《 The Complete Lyrics of Irving Berlin 》這本書的記載，這是電影史上第一首由許多不同種族的演員合力演出的歌曲。

　所謂" Puttin' on the Ritz "，意思是指一個人穿著時尚、打扮得體。這裡的 Ritz，是指 Ritz Hotel 麗池大酒店，由瑞士籍的 César Ritz( 1850–1918 )所創辦，是一相當高檔的酒店，出入的都是穿著華麗時髦的紳士名媛、影視名流等，所以後來便用" Put on the Ritz "來形容一個人穿著時尚而講究。

　1939 年，經典文藝片《 亂世佳人 》的男主角克拉克蓋博在《 Idiot's Delight 》片中又跳又唱的表演了這首歌，但真正讓這首歌開始走紅的，應該是踢踏舞王佛雷亞斯坦主演主唱的《 Blue Skies 》，年份是 1946 年。為了這部電影，艾文柏林修改了部分歌詞，以避免有種族歧視的嫌疑，如第一句歌詞中的 Lenox Avenue 改成 Park Avenue。後來的翻唱者大都是選唱這個修訂版，但當年唱片公司所發行的唱片中，佛雷亞斯坦演唱的仍是 1930 年的原版歌詞。

　" Puttin' on the Ritz "後來多次被翻唱，包括搖擺樂天王班尼古德曼和爵士女伶艾拉費茲傑羅等；1983 年，一位荷蘭籍的歌手 Taco 翻唱這首歌為舞曲版，使它再次紅遍全球。

　Taco Ockerse ( 真名，非藝名 ) 的父母均為荷蘭人，他在印尼雅加達出生，在德國長大，主修舞蹈與劇場。1983 年，塔可發行了首張個人專輯《 After Eight 》，這張專輯全部都是翻唱曲，並選出" Puttin' on the Ritz "做為主打單曲。當時 MTV 音樂頻道剛成立不久，可播的音樂錄影帶不算多，當時的 MV 表現形式也中規中矩，塔可這首歌的 MV 裡，有豪華亮麗的服裝、發光的柺杖和踢踏舞等吸引觀眾的熱鬧元素，因而被該台選為重點播放的歌曲，對單曲銷售極有助益。

　MV 裡塔可表演了一段踢踏舞以向佛雷亞斯坦致敬；編曲末段則加入作曲者艾文柏林其他知名作品" White Christmas "、" Alexander's ragtime band "和" There's no business like show business "等片段。

　這部 MV 當年有一段小插曲，由於 MV 裡面有些演員化妝成白臉紅唇，有些將臉塗黑扮成黑人。這些所謂的「blackface 黑臉」在美國社會被視為有嘲弄和歧視黑人的意味，因而被一些電視台禁播，唱片公司只好再製作出另一個版本，因此這首歌的 MV 有二個版本。

　塔可的" Puttin' on the Ritz "在美國排行登上冠軍寶座時，創下一項新紀錄：

　它使艾文柏林成為進入排行榜前十名作品中年紀最大的作曲者，當時他已高齡 95 歲。這個版本在美國共賣出一百萬張，成為一張金唱片，但也是塔可在美國唯一的一首暢銷曲。不過在他之後，新的翻唱不斷，本地樂迷較熟悉的，就有尼爾戴蒙、英國天王羅比威廉斯和著名小喇叭手 Herb Alpert 等。
