　創作需要靈感，靈感無所不在，有時候靈感來得莫名其妙且不可思議！

　" I started a joke "這首歌的旋律是比吉斯兄弟中的 Robin Gibb 羅賓吉布所寫，他在接受訪問中表示，當時他們正搭乘英國航空的維克斯子爵型客機( Vickers Viscount )，維克斯子爵型客機是一款中小型的渦輪引擎客機，歷年來各機型的座位數有 24、32、48 個不等。

　羅賓說：「........四個引擎賣力的運轉著，轟隆聲讓乘客們昏昏欲睡。過了一會兒，轟隆聲裡出現了音律的型式，聽起來充滿神秘像是教堂裡的合唱團。於是我們做了一個決定，強迫機長在距離最近的村莊降落。在一家小酒吧裡，我們把歌詞都寫好了。」

　這段話顯然一半是真的，一半是唬爛的。大哥巴瑞吉布補充說：「事實上，不是在村莊，是在一個城市；也不是在酒吧，而是在旅館，我們也沒有強迫機長在田裡降落。」

　" I started a joke "收錄在比吉斯合唱團 1968 年的《 Idea 》專輯，在全美百大單曲榜最高名次為第 6 名，為他們再添一首暢銷曲。這首歌由羅賓主唱，歌詞藉由哭與笑、死去與活著、個人與世界等幾種對比，反映一個人的孤獨與人生的荒謬。

　羅賓吉布於 2012 年 5 月 20 日死於腎衰竭，他的兒子回憶了父親過世的最後一幕：

　「他死後，我們走出病房，醫護人員移走醫療器材，我們又回到病房。

　　我拿出手機，在 YouTube 裡找到" I started a joke "開始播放，我將手機放在他胸前，那是我第一次崩潰痛哭。音樂、歌詞和那一刻完全契合，如今，它對我具有全新的意義。」
